History
With creativity flowing under the backdrop of a pandemic, KOIX was officially created in 2021.
John and Ellie King are a husband and wife team and founded KOIX together in their South East Melbourne home. They are a local community minded family that are involved in the Australian basketball community in many ways and wanted to give the basketball community a local brand that Aussies can be proud of.
The name KOIX derives from the word Coex which means ‘A New Era’ and is exactly what the brand is for the Australian basketball shoe market. The letters were changed to match family names, and thus the name and brand ‘KOIX’ was born. KOIX is a new era, a new era for basketball shoes in Australia, a new era for the Australian baller, a shoe made by ballers for ballers.
KOIX works with individuals, basketball associations and domestics clubs to deliver shoes to their basketball teams and players. We are happy to discuss the opportunities that this could bring to your association or club.
John then went onto play professionally around the world following his passion and love for the game. Shortly after landing to play professionally in the tropics in Australia, John met his soon to be wife Ellie. Ellie was in Darwin on a business trip and swiftly ensured John that Melbourne could be the place to fully embrace his Brooklyn baller culture on and off the court. Ellie grew up playing netball as a defensive minded and positioned player, the sport was quickly replaced by Basketball when John and his basketball world married Melbourne raised Ellie. Fast forward 7 more pro career seasons, 6 years of marriage, two beautiful children, and a pandemic later John and Ellie King founded KOIX. KOIX is the basketball shoe Australian basketballers have been waiting for, the shoe made by ballers for ballers!
With memories of receiving fresh basketball shoes when playing on different AAU, high school and college teams, John knew Australia was missing out on a way to support sport participation and the Australian basketball market. With ballers in mind KOIX aims to simplify the way beginner, intermediate and elite Australian basketballers obtain basketball shoes.
KOIX aims to give the Australian basketball culture an identity within the shoe market by creating a brand that is owned down under, made by a basketball family with the Australian basketballer in mind.
